Newbie Question (Unlocked Phone w/ Prepaid Service)

Hello,

I currently have a Sony Ericsson T290a with Cingular Go phone prepaid service. It's not quite what I was looking for in a phone and lacks features that I have to have. So I decided that I'd buy a new phone. Well, after looking at what phones are made for the Go Phone prepaid service, I'm disappointed, mainly because the phones availible aren't really that nice!
So after some searching I came onto unlocked phones! Now my question to you is, is it possible for me to use my Cingular Go Phone prepaid service with an unlocked phone?
Please get back to me ASAP, because I want to buy a phone by late next week.

Thanks in Advance,
Devin

On your Cingular Go Phone, does it have a sim card? If it does then yes it will work with unlocked phones. Just put your sim in the phone and it should work with no problems.

I was searching around and reading some reviews on certain cell phones and some people were stating that the frequency must be 850 Mhz or something like that to use with Cingular. Is this true?
I'm also trying to find a good replacement. Some features that I'd like are MP3 ringtones, decent color display, and some standard features like MMS/SMS messaging, text messaging, internet "MEdia Net", ect.. And I have $175 to spend on it. I want a phone that'll play MP3 or realtones cleanly for the most part. And obviously I'm looking for unlocked phones. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have been looking at an unlocked Motorola V80 for $170 including shipping, would this be a good phone for what I want?
I like the looks of the LG F9100 and I found one unlocked for $86, but I don't think they are compatible with realtones and thats something I've wanted for a while and a big part in why I'm upgrading.
I wish I could find a RAZR, but they are $200+ and I'm limited with my funds.

Thanks in Advance,
Devin

Ok, I'm begining to think that I may go with a LG F9100. Mainly because of the features and the price. But first I'd like to ask a few questions for the people who have used or own the phone. Do the music tones sound clean or do they have distortion? I've heard that the screen has a washed out look, is this true? What do you think of the phone as far as daily usage?

Thanks in Advance,
Devin

the screen looks great to me and tones sound good you could get any background and make your own tones from your pc(free) with either bluetooth or a standard usb digatal cam cable which cost about 5 bucks the bluetooth is more i like the cord casue it also acts as a charger but the razr is pretty cool i liked my old nokia 3650 a lil better cause it had realone the cam is nice on the razr infact if you dont get a razor make sure the phone you do get one thats hooks into a standard usb digital cam cord will save you lots since you wont need to buy tones or wallpaper

Well, now I'm hung between the Nokia 6061 and the LG F9100. I like the LGs look, but the Nokia seems to have better features. And the prices aren't too terribly different.
LG F9100= $86
Nokia 6061= $120

Granted either will be better than my current phone.

Which one would be a better choice?
Another question....
Could I possibly use my Cingular Go Phone prepaid service with a locked Cingular phone?

I'm on a crusade to destroy Cingular. Good job on at least screwing them over a little.
