I'm in a generous mood, so I gave them a 7.
Over the past couple of years, I've been fortunate to have spoken to more knowledgeable reps than clueless ones when I've called with questions. We'll see if that holds in the future.

Also, with Sprint you physically change the settings in the phone to not allow it to roam, this may also be possible with your phone.

I've always had really bad reception from Cingular, so I gave them a 6.
We really should have a poll like this stickied for all carriers here on CPF.

Example all my nokias (both internal and external antennas), have better reception than my current Motorola with it's external antenna (when I'm holding the phone), if I use the wired or BT headset, the reception is just as good as my Nokias. (Ok no jokes about my head being so thick it blocks the cell signal!)
I have friends with Sony E's and when they walk into my place, they have No Service on their phones at all.

by 'bad reception' do you mean few bars, poor call quality, or no reception at all?
i can get the same call quality on 1-2 bars as i sometimes get on 4-5, but not always. i have two identical phones, and at the same time one receives 1 bar and the other is at 4-5 bars; or one will be total static and the other is crystal clear. and on other occasions, i can get reception where i know that the nearest tower is 25 miles away.
reception is tricky, but if you're in a metro region, cingular should have you covered. unless you're in a mysterious dead spot...

For me when holding the Nokias, I never had any dropped or grabled calls, unless I was in a known fringe/dead area. My Moto V557 while great most of the time, tends to drop calls and get that underwater garble, if I'm holding the phone in my hand. But don't get those effects when on speaker phone or using the headsets in the same areas I'd get dropped or garbled calls when holding it.
I might add that the older phones had external antennas and the 6010 has an internal one. The V557 also has an external antenna.
So I'm either a RF/signal blocking mutant or some phones just have better reception, no matter what type of antenna they come with.
Personally if I'm a mutant, I think I'd rather my power be flying or laser eyes, who wants to be known as Cellphone Signal Blocker Man?

have you tried altering your hand position on the phone, especially on internal antenna phones. logically, if you think about it, when you're on speaker phone, you're not surrounding the phone with your body. so if you try holding the phone while covering less surface area, you may get results.
works with my lg c1300pos.

So like you have stated, I just figured there is some sort of interference when it's near my body, vs open and away from my body. I have also noticed that if the phone is in my front or shirt pockets, it won't ring, but I will get message and VM alerts. This happens with a T-mobile SIM as well as the Cingular SIM.
The next step of course would be to swap the phone out for another V557 to see if it's just this phone. Otherwise I'm really a mutant and may have to be destroyed before my signal sapping powers get out of control.

my expert analysis has come to one possible solution. alpha flight has abducted you and outfitted you with an adamantium skeleton. very cool for opening canned vegetables in the woods (wolverine style); not so cool for cell phone reception.

I would give them a 10. Because I get service everywhere plus the minutes are roll-over. But I just joined cingular so i'll have to see how long this'll last.
