Hi. I have a cingular contract until March 2007. I also have a crappy phone. I've tried contacting cingular to see if they could help but all they will do is transfer to a new contract which means I start my 2 year plan all over again. I have been looking at options to get a new phone without spending a lot of money. So, here's the ?
Can I buy a payasyougo phone and use my existing sim card on it? Will I encounter problems?

As long as its a Cingular Pay-as-you-go phone you shouldn't have a problem.

But you may have to configure the unlocked phone in order to use features beyond voice calls.

As far as buying a phone, unlocked or a newer one, that someone is selling that is branded Cingular, (new or used), you are only limited buy your wallet.

So What would you consider too much money? And what is the most you would be willing to pay for a phone? That will help narrow down what you can get and from where you might be able to get it.

A good place to find local deals for used phones (and anything else for that matter), would be Craig's List www.craigslist.org

Once on the site, you pick the city you are in or one close to you, and search the forsale or electronics sections for phones. The good thing about buying from someone face to face, is you can pop your SIM in the phone to see if it works (if they say it's unlocked). Another good thing is you may have haggling room on their asking price, as many people pot listings for $X bucks OBO (Or best offer). And some people may be asking for things in trade rather than just money.
