    If bell south (which owns 40% of cingular) and AT&T (which owns 60% of cingular) merge, AT&T said it will stop using the cingular name and call it AT&T. do you think prices will rise or drop for cell phone service?

    no, and yes!

    it will drop because at&t wants you to bundle services, ie cell, dsl, landline, dish. so they will offer incentives to save you money.
