Re: Buying a used cingular phone?
assuming the nokia is a cingular branded phone, you shouldn't have a problem.

Re: Buying a used cingular phone?
I have a very related question. Is it possible to purchase a Cingular GoPhone that is pay as you go and use that with my Cingular SIM card?
My handset is broken and out of warranty -- they want $115 to fix it!

Re: Buying a used cingular phone?
This is the preferred solution if you don't want to extend your contract. You don't have to call cingular at all to do this. The phones are already compatable so there is no need to have to configure them to use on cingular. And they have refurbs that start at $30!

Re: Buying a used cingular phone?
Thanks for the help!
I decided to go this route. I was choosing between the Nokia 6030 and the Samsung X947. With the refurb prices, I went ahead and bought both! Now I've got a built-in backup.

Re: Buying a used cingular phone?
Good plan. To me it is amazing that people will pay hunderds each year for the latest gadget when their current phone still works fine. I guess I see more value in inexpensive phones. My $40 phone (new and full price) is an entry level phone that is color, does SMS, MMS, and WAP just fine. It also has excellent reception and the best battery life of any phone I have ever owed.
But it is just my opinion. I don't need to spend hundreds on a fancy toy. I already own a digital camera, MP3 player, and GPS that do a much better job then any phone out there. Plus I'm not out much if my phone breaks or is lost. Replacing an inexpensive phone with another inexpensive phone is the cheapest insurance I can think of. Between good quality entry level phones, ebay, refurbs, and some RESEARCH you can get a very good phone for less then $50.
If you spend $$$$$$ on your phone that is your choice. No offense. I just like saving money. Plus I primarily use my phone for, well, talking.

Re: Buying a used cingular phone?
You can unlock your nokia phone I did thanks to this forum and I bought an other Nokia 6800 after I thought I had to change phone I found out later I could have unlock the Nokia phone and used the new sim card. I never liked the LG phone (poor battery life and small keyboard). So I bought a Nokia 6800 and found not only how to convert from Mmode to MEdia net and set up the multimedia message too. Thanks guys
