What do you mean they said you can't upgrade? You mean they aren't going to give you a free phone or a rebate on a new one? I think if you would read some other peoples' threads you would find your answer. You can always buy a new phone outright and use it...

They are only saying that to upgrade to a newer phone with a discount, through them, you will need to wait to do so. But at any time you can buy a phone at retail, used through anyone else that sells phones without a contract. Just make certain that the phone you are wanting to use, works on your carrier. And you can find that out by going to Phone Scoop and reading up on the phones you are wanting to buy.

With Cingular, as long as the phone is GSM, and uses the 850/1900 bands for service (850 being the main one Cingular operates on), it wouldn't be a problem. GOOGLE is your friend.

Now the only thing with buying any phone that your carrier does not support, is that if you run into problems using it, the carrier will fall back on the old "It's not a phone we support or sell, you can try this this and maybe this, but if it still does not work, you are on your own." song and dance.

I work as a call center rep for them, and you can always buy a phone at retail price and upgrade. Cingular is just saying that they won't give you a discounted upgrade until 10/6/06, i didn't mean to sent this as 2 posts, whoops.

Mod Edit: I put them back together for you.
