Whenever I am in a different county, my cingular L6 slvr says CINGULAR ONE on the screen, and it is roaming. Never had this happen with any other phone. Any ideas.

if you are out of country, then you are roaming... cingular doesn't have international towers, so you roam...

Nothing you can do, looks like Cingular does not have good agreements in place in these countries? or does it? My Cingular phone actually identifies itself as a local carrier (GSM+, Era, etc.) when travelling outside US.

Well, he didn't say country. Whether or not that's what he meant, I don't know. I don't know much about Cingular either so I'm not sure what the issue would be even if he does mean county.

Re: why is my phone doing this?

I did mean county. I can travel 30 minutes to a neighboring county and I am roaming. My phone is a GSM phone with the 850/1900 bands. And it just started this recently, or that I have noticed. I have the same plan and coverage that I have had for about 7 years and no other phone I have had has ever roamed once. If their is no way to stop this I will have to get rid of the phone. Not gonna get charged with roaming fees. Oh yeah, is their any1 who knows why I am getting confirmation text messages everytime I check my voicemail. Or am I just screwed all the way around on this phone? Thanks.

if you are on a nation plan with cingular, then you won't be charged roaming charges, it just means that you aren't on a cingular network. cingular absorbs the cost of the roaming calls you make, but you will not be charged roaming unless you are out of the country. there's no need to get rid of your phone... if you aren't on a nation plan and you are on an older phone, then you will be charged roaming.
