I lost my phone (motorola RazrV3) and need to replace but I have to pay full price because I'm only into the contract 6 months. My question is can I pick any tri or quad band GSM phone from an ebay seller if it is unlocked or am I limited to just the current choices listed on cingular's website? I know I need to get a new sim card as well, and do I just call cingular customer service to have them activate the phone with my number? I saw the new motorola V1050 and liked it, but was not sure if it is compatable since it is "3G" Thanks for any info...DanNJ

Re: Question about replacing a lost phone

Figuring out what tri band quad band phone will work on which providers isn't my forte but the other stuff I can help.No you are not limited to cing choices (although I don't know which I know there are others) The sim card may cost about 25-35 US depending on if it may be a deal breaker on them keeping your business, and yes once you get your new card, providing you reported your phone stolen (You did report it? Right?) you can just give them a call and they'll set it up for you.

Re: Question about replacing a lost phone

Same situation: cingular customer for 6 months and lost razr.

I purchased the new 2006 cingular 3g SIM on ebay for 6 bucks total with shipping; works great. Go to ebay put in "cingular sim" and limit to sim cards then click on buy it now. My seller was from like Neb. and got me the card in about two days. Make sure you add up the buy price, with shipping cost and insurance so you have the right total. Other sellers had prices of 7, 8 and 9 bucks - beats cingular store at 25 bucks.

I purchased a new Slvr L6 Quad band on ebay for $118 total with shipping; it really is the Razr basic version except as candy bar style phone; it was unlocked and so far (1 day) works great. My seller was from Brooklyn; go to ebay cell phones and phones only and search "L6." Click on buy it now; prices ranged from 118 bucks to about 166 bucks; be carefull you know the total price --item plus shipping plus insurance. (A number of goofs had like 88 buck buy prices plus 39.99 shipping and 4.99 insurance).

I believe NJ is like Pa as you need an 850 band phone (sometimes identified as 800 band). A 900 band will not work! The Slvr L6 comes in Quad and Tri Bands- you need Quad.

I activated the SIM yesterday by calling cingular and telling them I was putting it in one of my other family plan phones until I got my new phone from my ebay seller; they said it wasn't a problem. They Activated the new sim card.

I put the card in my new unlocked phone that I received today and it works great; not sure I need to even call cingular with the new phone ime number.

    Lost phone cost me $124 -- had I purchased a basic Razr and SIM from Cingular 299 + 25 = $324.

if you get a quad band phone it will work with cingular because it has 850 900 1800 1900 freq.
if you take tri band it may work with cingular in some parts of the country because cingular is using 850 freq. in some places and 900 in other places so you best bet is to get urself a quad band phone or either confirms with the sell or cingular if ur picking a tri band phone if its going to work where you are located.
