I have a special circumstance and need help. I live in an area that is not serviced by the Cingular network. However, I am with Edge Wireless which is a GSM partner of Cingular. Edge is switching technolgies to GSM. Unfortunately, the phones that they are offering are not ones I like. If I purchased a phone from Cingular and signed up with them, they soon would notice that all my activity was on the gsm partner and not their network. So that option was out. I discovered the LG CU500 on eBay and bought one, new-in-box . It is currently locked to Cingular. My Edge rep powered it up with their sim card and told me that I needed to get the Cingular unlock code before they could program it. After some research, I now know that the code is tied to the phone's IMEI#. Can someone direct me to the proper source to get this code? Thanks in advance.

Re: Unlocking LG CU500 Cingular phone
Call around town for independently owned cell phone retailers and ask them if they can unlock your phone for a fee. I would recommend this first before you try getting it online from somewhere. It's unsafe to give your IMEI out to a stranger, so I'd rather do it in person. However, there are unlocking services online you can find searching google, just make sure you trust who you're dealing with. It's better to pay a small fee and have it done correctly. The wrong unlock code put in too many times will lock the SIM, which is a terrible hassle to fix so be careful!
