I am with Verizon now. The service is so bad that I am planning to switch. I want to get a Motorola phone without camera (no camera phone at work). Cingular does not offer such phone now. I think I can get a Motorola V190 Go Phone. Can I activate the service without signing a contract? I think I still have a SIM card from Cingular not too long ago. I don't want to commit to a contract without getting a phone I want.

what i would do is...search around (i.e. WireFly LetsTalk ) and look for a phone that you want...so you can get the discount price if you activate a new contract. I hope that helps you

This is similar to my situation.

I was with Verizon for over 4 years. I had recently upgraded my phone and for some reason those idiots changed my plan which excluded my usual nights and weekends deal. Suddenly after a couple of months I received some crazy bill and I told them that it needed to be fixed, but they insisted that if I didn't pay the amount that they would suspend my service. What a way to treat a customer who's been with them for so long. So I changed to Cingular and also took my Verizon number with me.

Because of this situation I chose one of the Cingular prepaid deals called "Pick Your Plan". This is an actual plan (like that of a phone with a contract), but it's prepaid. I chose to go this route because I don't want to end up in a crazy situation like the one I experienced with Verizon or be locked into any contract. With my plan I still have mobile to mobile, nights and weekends, rollover minutes, caller ID, forwarding, etc. like any other plan. I'd suggest it to anyone out there interested in going prepaid.
