Re: Cingular plan but want a t-mobile phone
The features of the sidekick only work on T-mobile. Plus the data settings are pretty well locked onto the phone. So, you have a choice, give up the cingular plan, pay the etf and go with t-mobile or keep cingular and give up the sidekick.

Howdy Fireball,
You can wait, but you'll be waiting a very very very VERY (did I say very?), long time. Sidekick is a T-mobile only deal. You can use it as a phone after it's unlocked, but you will not be able to use any of the data related features with Cingular.
Now what you can do is get a Sidekick without phone service, meaning you will still be paying Cingular for you voice phone, but using Danger (the company that handles the SK data services through Tmobile), for the data services with the SK.
I know quite a few people that do this, have a voice line and a SK. But most of them are hardcore texting and IM animals, so the unlimited texting and IM's works great for them.
So for you, right now it's wait or pay the ETF. And if you want a SK with phone service, why would you worry about who makes better phones?

You'd have to have a data plan to use data services, with ANY of the cell phone carriers. So won't matter if you have one device or two to do the job. Many people use their cell phones as modems (with the laptops or their PDA devices), to use limited or unlimited data services with their carriers. And use the cell phone to make calls even if their PDA can make calls.
I see people all day with one ear on a cell phone and both hands texting like a coked up monkey on speed!
So in short, even if you went to T-mobile, and got a SK, and used it for messaging and texting and surfing the next, you'd have to have a voice plan as well if you wanted to use it as a phone, which of course means... more money every month of of your pocket.

If you buy a suncom "hiptop" (the non-tmobile sidekick) can you get the data services on cingular?
