    Hello,

I'm waiting out my current time with A'mpd mobile and I'm going to switch most likely to Cingular's "Pay-As-You-Go" program. I was wondering if anyone has it and, if so, what their impressions of it were as compared to other prepaid services.

Before A'mpd (great reception - awful customer service and disingenuous billing practices) I had Boost, which was OK but I had a lot of dropped calls.
I checked out Cingular's prepaid coverage map and it looks like I will get decent coverage as I live in the NYC metro area (about 30 miles west of the city).
I also find their $100/365 days active service offering to be ideal as I don't use my cell phone with much regularity. I might have to refill it within a year however, so I wonder if I replenished it if I got down to, say, $50 on my balance if it would continue the 365 day active service.

Anyway, I figure I'd go for the flat $.25/minute option as I don't have lengthy conversations on my cell and I don't text message anyone. Are there any hidden fees I may have missed from reading their website?

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

I used to use it. Coverage is the same as regular Cingular native coverage.
As long as you don't go out of the Cingular area then you will be fine. And there are no extra charges. You pay what they say. twenty five cents a minute.
Beware though, time is rounded up to the next minute. If you talk for 61 seconds you are charged for 2 minutes. Of course, this is industry standard.
However, you may want to check out Beyond GSM, it is a prepaid carrier that
uses Cingular's network and seems to be cheaper.

Thanks for the input and the link to the alternative carrier. BeyondWireless looks interesting, however their rates are much higher for what I would be looking for.....for example, it costs $50 to keep the phone active for 90 days. There is a $50 - 365 days offer, but the company is not clear as to how it works (they give you 102 minutes....if those expire before a year is up, what next?). I tend to shy away from companies with such plans that are vague.
