#21 | | I want my molecules back! | I remember the DOS shell days.
I was in the Navy from 87-91 and worked in an office with one desktop computer. It had a 286 chip at a blistering 66Mhz, a green monochrome EGA monitor and a 20MB hard drive. I remember how god-like I thought I was when my office splurged to get me a second 20MB hard drive for a mind-numbing total of 40MB. That computer didn't even have a shell, it was DOS commands or nothing.
That computer seemed like a powerhouse compared to my home PC at that time, which had an 8088 processor and a 4-color CGA monitor and also ran DOS. I can't remember what version it was running.
And you're right, the original Prince of Persia was a great game. Everybody thought the graphics were totally awesome and tripped out about how smoothly the guy ran and jumped. "That looks SO real," we'd say. Those were the days.

First Intel PC to do 66 MHz without overclocking was 486 DX2 66 MHz. Dos in 87 would be DOS 2.X or 3.X. IN 91 DOS 3.X or 4.X or maybe 5.0
So was the monitor EGA (16 color) or monochrome (1 color)

I also messed around with the control panel (was that what it was called back then?) and that's where I learned that I liked to tinker with computers. | | | |
