Hi.
I own a packard bell PC with BIOS fron 1998. I am trying to install ubuntu a linux OS on it. It says the BIOS need to be from 2000. Is there a way to update this? I have never installed an OS on a computer.

PS. If you need to see what that OS is google ubuntu or free linux.

Re: Question about Win. 98 PC
You can always flash the BIO, but on a computer that is that old, you really may want to find something with a little bit more muscle. Even though Linux is an awesome OS, most distros require a bit more HD space than what you probably have on a 10 yr old computer. With that said, you can still stick in another hd and add just a bit more ram and you will have a slow but still useful computer. You just need to find out some information about the manufacturer of your motherboard and bios information to get a more recent bios.
