Here's a real techy question to test you all.
I'm a bit confused (I often am). I know that you can have Midi Files containing Lyrics and some Midi playing software will show you the lyrics (like vanBasco for example), and some keyboards will display the lyrics when playing the Midi (my Yamaha PSR-740 does... sometimes).
What I don't know is how it all hangs together. When I open a Midi file (with lyrics) with CakeWalk, sometimes the lyrics appear as 'Lyric' events; sometimes as 'text' events, and sometimes as markers.
What is the best to use when entering your own lyrics?. And is there and special sysex codes etc to enter to make sure they are used (e.g. on my keyboard).
Sometimes after editting with CakeWalk my lyrics are still there, but they don't show when I play the midi file.
Cheers
Gandalf

Yeah... I did warn that it was a real techy issue... I'll try and explain again in practical terms.
Some Midis contain lyrics.
When I play these files on my PSR-740, sometimes the lyrics show up on the keyboards display panel, which is real cool, since it lets me sing karaoke while pretending to play.
BUT... most of these files do not show up the lyrics, even though there is definitely some lyrics inside the midi file. I know this because I can see them when I open the file using Cakewalk.
NOW.... when I dig deeper in cakewalk, I find that the lyrics have been entered in one of three ways...
1) lyrics are listed as time markers
2) lyrics are listed in a track as text events
3) lyrics are listed in a track as lyric events
Added to that... sometimes I have a file which show the lyrisc as stated above, but I make a slight change to the file (e.g. tempo) and then next time I play it... no lyrics..
I just wonder if there is a correct way to enter lyrics. There seems to be several standards.Songs posted by me have either been editted for a Yamaha PSR-740 or have been found on the internet and are in their original state.
