Asurion cell phone insurance review!

Asurion cell phone insurance is a rip off....Dont get it.....I have Verizon and was offered Asurion insurance on my cell phone in case my phone broke, or was stolen, etc. Anyway I think the service is a total rip off....Dont get it and I will tell you why.....

1) Cost of Asurion insurance.....$5.00 a month.

2) If you make a claim they make you pay $50.00

3) Once you do a claim and you get a new phone you must send back your old phone (with the battery) within 15 days or they can charge you up to $300.00.

4) The customer service sucks.

Now let me explain this better for you.....lets say your cell phone craps out 14 months into your plan...14 months x $5.00 a month equals...$70.00. Now $70.00 plus the $50.00 fee they charge you equals $120.00. Thats almost as much as a new phone already. But wait.....

Dont forget you gotta send your old broken phone back in with the battery...It does not take a moron to realized that they referbish the old phones and put new cheap plastic housings on the phones and resell em. Probably the batteries too. How much do ya think the old cell phone is worth to the refurbish company....? $15, $25?, $40? While they resell it for probably at least $90 to $175. Which you originally paid $150.00 for.

Oh and dont forget to send in that old phone, if you dont, thats an extra $300.00

And lastly, the customer service sucks.....Oh the reps you talk to are very nice dont get me wrong, but I was disconnected once, put on hold several times....Told the wrong information.....(Guy told me that the $50.00 went towards extra months on your Asurion insurance plan, next person I talked to said that was not true and it was just a service fee)

So all and all you end up paying about $150.00 for your new phone, while they turn around fix the old one and resell your phone as a new or refurbished one (I am only guessing about this but is probably the case).....If your phone does not break for longer....You end up paying even more. Worst case senario you forget to send in your broken phone and could end up paying like $450.00.

The only good things about this service is that you pay no shipping costs, Or did I? and I got a new phone by the next day.

I thought insurance was suppost to help your wallet, not not burn a hole in it. Its an Assurance, that youll be getting scammed with Asurion insurance.

    Hey bud, just wondering if you've ever had any insurance of any kind before? You pay the premium every month and if something happens, you pay the deductable. Would it be that difficult for you to take your old phone that you won't use any more and place it into the postage paid, already addressed envelope and drop it in the mail. Not difficult instructions...for most people. LOL Its really not out fault that you decided to drop your $300 ,or whatever you paid for it, phone in the toilet, or whatever happened to it, but we are there to send you a replacement phone for $50 plus a new battery and a new home charger. That's a pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Build a bridge buddy, and get over it. If you don't like the insurance, don't have it. But have fun paying full price for your next phone next time your dog chews it up, plus the cost of the battery.

    i have t mobile service and i insured my phone (nokia 9500) with them. after 12 months, it died on me and needed a replacement. i called them, they explained that that phone was not available. the new blackberry just came out (8800). i asked for that. chareged me the deductable. i recieved it the next day. yeah, a was put on hold several times. had to talk to couple of poeple. but in the end, i was happy. i can't remember how much i paid for the nokia, i know i saved some $$$ with the insurance even with the $5 monthly + deductable.

    Same with my wife's phone. Keys wouldn't work. Couldn't be without because of work (no home phone). Shipped one the next day and we had it activated by the afternoon. Otherwise we would have had to pay a couple hundred dollars for a new one plus driving cost. This insurance is no different than car insurance. You pay deductible to insurance. They give you payout or get you similar car. Then they sell your car to salvage yard. If you have no claims you still have paid them for the security factor.

    Asurion has gotten about $200 out of us, just in the last 4 months since we've had our service... My first krzr got a crack (I was gonna live with it) and then died when it became intimate with a bit of Mt Dew. My hubby's first Samsung a930 got dropped into a puddle of water on the floorboard of a junk car. Mine was still ok and he used it until his came in. By the his came in, the face was cracked on mine. His second phone had an unfortunate meeting with asphalt and tires. It still came on, though! I had JUST got my new one, when he ran his over. So I gave him mine, and wouldn't you know... it was in his pocket and he got drenched by a gallon of water (fell over as he was driving). The worst part about the insurance is that you have to pay $50 per phone per claim, and that if you have to file a second claim, your insurance gets canceled. In a way, though, it's good because now he takes better care knowing if it's broke he's gotta fork over the $$ for a full priced new one. I'm really glad we purchased our new phones on sale, we got them both for $49 each. So total, we've still got less $ in them than if we had purchased them straight out.

    Insurance is pretty critical to purchase because of the problems that may occur without the safety net. For what they are offering, it seems like a good deal to me

    If you purchase insurance on a phone that you love, don't you think you should at least get the same phone or "of like kind" when your phone goes array? Asurion is a rip off. They are not nice, their customer service reps are robotic. I'd rather speak with an automated service, because that is exactly how they speak. Do they memorize their quick answer such as "this is the only phone we have to give you as a replacement." Blow me.

    i have to disagree strongly. its the best thing ever. i have an expensive phone and in order to replace id have to either renew my contract with verizon, or pay full retail price which is about $500 or 600 i think. (treo 700p). i have made claims with them on a few different occasions and i cant complain one bit. only thing that sucks is after making more than one claim in less than 12 months, they boot u off their coverage. but for $5 a month its better than car insurance!

    My experience, so far: My Sidekick 3 has had some problems over the year and a half that I’ve owned it, but I’ve lived with them. One of the problems was a malfunctioning “o” key, which made writing long emails quite a nuisance. This was ultimately the problem that led me to call Asurion and request a replacement. I agreed to pay the $110 deductible, and I promptly received a replacement unit in the mail.

    The replacement Sidekick 3 had two notable problems. The two upper buttons on the front did not depress consistently, but jammed every other time they were pressed. And the phone would not charge its own battery. I confirmed the battery problem unambiguously by trying my old battery, phone and charger. The only way to charge the battery was in my old phone. So after two days of experimentation, I called Asurion back.

    The first call I made from my Sidekick, and the representative told me that I had to call back from a land line and wait on hold again. The second time I called, I made it through all of the automated selections and was on hold when I was suddenly disconnected and heard a rapid phone disconnection signal. The third time I called I reached a representative, but while I was describing the problem I was disconnected again. (I was calling from a land line which has no connection issues). The fourth time I called I reached a representative who understood my problem and asked me to verify my identity using a series of multiple choice questions. It turned out I failed the test (!) by answering “none of the above” to a question about a car that I supposedly own but that in fact I sold four years ago (I don’t currently own a car). When the representative explained to me that as a result of failing the test, I would be required to send both old and replacement phones back to Asurion, I asked to speak to a manager.

    The Asurion manager again insisted that if I wanted a replacement phone sent out quickly, I would need to send both phones back to Asurion. I pleaded that my original phone was purchased outright by me and worked fine (except for the broken “o” key and some minor issues), so why should I have to send it to Asurion? Why couldn’t I send the replacement phone back and have a new phone sent out as soon as possible? The manager then explained in no uncertain terms that if I send back only the non-working replacement Asurion phone, I would have to wait until it was “fully processed” and then CALL Asurion AGAIN to ensure that a new phone be sent out.

    Well, that was really the last straw. Why should I have to jump through extra hoops because Asurion sent me a defective (“refurbished”) replacement phone? By the time I called T-Mobile’s customer service to complain about my experience with Asurion, I had only one desire: a refund of all the premiums I ever paid for my extended warranty. Needless to say, no dice there, though the T-Mobile rep graciously offered to call Asurion directly on my behalf. After talking to two more Asurion representatives, I now have an agreement that once I send back the defective replacement phone and get a UPS scan, that Asurion will send me out a replacement replacement automatically without "processing" the return first. Let's hope I have better luck with the second round...

    In summary, I've paid $108 in premiums plus a $110 deductible, spent hours on the phone with Asurion, and I couldn't be LESS satisfied with the customer service. I may ultimately get a working replacement phone, but it won't have been worth the trouble. I would not recommend Asurion to anyone.

    You guys are missing a key parts of the A$$urion. You're only alowed 2 claims a year per contract. Plus they ship you a referbed phone that has a %100 chance of breaking within a month. And they make you jump through every single hoop you can imagine.

    my LG phone got a little wet and did not work properly - paid the $50 and got a refurbished phone - took my no-good phone to my Verizon store to have them transfer my contacts - after the transfer was completed - the phone worked again Why couldnt Verizon and Asurion say to run your phone thru this machine to see if it can still work and save us $50 and the hassle ?

    I have never purchased the equipment warranty but have to say that my recent experience with this vendor has been stellar! They were professional on the phone, and I received my phone less than 24 business hours later(claim called in Friday eve after 6 pm- and phone received Monday afternoon)! I am with Sprint- so perhaps that is the difference! I would recommend Asurion wholeheartedly!

    Honestly,

    I cannot fully explain what I am about to do with these Asurion guys. We Americans are weak at times letting the Big Corps run us over. Knowledge is key and power. So many people on these forums have complained and eventually gave up and gave in. thats the problem they know most will because the "little guys are too lazy to find out their rights" . Basically, they are fraud in any aspect. Does anyone ever read in thier forms "any false or MISLEADING information is subject penalty"? Same thing applies to us to them..they are infact misleading in 99% of what they say. Depending on your situation, there are different laws they break the law. You have the right to sue BIG TIME not for your "device" but for Fraud. Thats how you get em. Put it this way...I provided the laws presented and passed by the US constitution in 1933 about my vehicle and "noted and legal tender" and I simply wrote my $47,000 dollar car off with out the "green money"!! know your laws and rights..knowledge is key...if you want we can join together sign a petition 5,000 strong and take Asurion as a large of one to court for fraud..I am ready for these guys.. just let me know!!
