In case you are eagerly waiting for the arrival of Sprint's next flagship phone -the
HTC EVO 4G LTE- I'm afraid you'll be disappointed to learn that the May 18 launch of the device has been scratched.
Unfortunately, it appears the ITC determined that the
HTC EVO 4G LTE might infringe on Apple's patents, thus the launch date of the device has been put on hold as long as the investigation is ongoing. We're not sure what might the HTC Evo 4G LTE infringe upon, as both the ITC and the manufacturer has revealed little information regarding the matter.
What we know is that last year in December the ITC determined that the function allowing a user to make calls and send emails by tapping the recipient's email address or phone number in a text, was an infringement upon Apple's patented features.
The Taiwanese manufacturer was supposed to remove the feature by the end of 19th of April, and according to HTC, the launch delay should have nothing to do with the above mentioned infringing technology, as the manufacturer successfully removed it as ordered by the ITC.
In other words, the exact reason behind ITC's decision to put the launch of the HTC Evo 4G LTE on hold is yet unknown, but HTC reported they're working diligently with US Customs in order to secure approval.
In the meantime, the information relating the launch date of the HTC Evo 4G LTE has been updated on Sprint's website and is now showing no exact launch date. Pre-ordering the device is no longer possible either but if you've already placed a pre-order, Sprint has provided all the information needed to cancel it in case you're not keen on waiting for the handset's release for an unspecified period of time.
We hope the issue will be solved in a timely matter, and we'll keep you up to date as soon as the story develops.
