After the Nokia 808 PureView made its debut at this year's Mobile World Congress, fans of the brand and/or the device residing in the US were hoping that the handset in question will hit the US market in a timely manner.

Despite the initial rumors indicating that the handset will not be launched in the US, Nokia has officially announced that they will make the 808 PureView available in North America after all, but there is a catch. Unfortunately the 808 will will not be offered by any US carriers on a contract and instead, only the unlocked variant will make its way in these parts, thus we'll need to pay the full price.

The Finnish manufacturer has officially announced that the Nokia 808 PureView will have a price tag of $700 and will be fully compatible with AT&T's network. Fortunately the gadget will also work on T-Mobile's network, but the bad news is that it will be limited to 2G traffic.

As for what you'll get for the price of $700 in terms of specifications, the main attraction of the Nokia 808 PureView is of course its 41-Megapixel rear facing camera featuring Carl Zeiss lens and Nokia's unique method of oversampling data. Other than that however, when it comes to hardware the 808 has little to offer and it can easily be categorized as a low-mid range device, with a single-core 1.3 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and a 4 inch AMOLED display featuring a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. Evidently, the price tag is given mostly by the camera on the back so at the end of the day the Nokia 808 PureView is pretty much a one trick pony.

In case you're eager to get your hands on the 808 you'll be pleased to learn that the handset will be available for pre-order via Amazon.com by the end of this week.
