Samsung, LG and Pantech along with South Korean carriers, SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ find themselves in some hot water with the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) of South Korea.
Both the manufacturers and the above mentioned carriers are being fined a combined fine of 45.3 billion won ($40.2 million, €30.8 million). The reason for the fine comes down to defrauding customers on the price of their handsets. About 209 different mobile phones were falsely inflated and then were offered incentives, promotions and price reductions, to make it look as if you were getting a deal, when in actuality, the deal was the normal price from the get-go.
Samsung, LG and Pantech will have to stop the practice and report to Korean FTC how much they profited from this.
