The first rumors concerning the fabled Amazon smartphone have started surfacing more than a year ago, and ever since then, new rumors have popped-up on the blogosphere at a steady rate. The idea is that, since Amazon has joined the tablet market with its successful Kindle Fire affordable line-up, there's no real reason why the company shouldn't adopt the same strategy and use it for the smartphone market as well.

Nevertheless, Amazon continues to keep quiet regarding the matter, and several previous rumors have been quite odd as well. Some of them have suggested that the Amazon phone will be free, but Amazon has later then stated that, if it will deliver a handset, it will never be free (obviously).

Other rumors have also suggested that the device will feature a 3D display. Tech buffs have wondered whether or not this is a good idea, given the fact that various other manufacturers (such as HTC and the Evo 3D) have given this type of technology a try, and it didn't really catch on. Unsurprisingly, these rumors have been extinguished.

However, the interesting bit is that, these rumors concerning a 3D display may have been misread. According to the latest, the Amazon phone will not have a 3D display, but a 3D user interface. Additionally, the handset would allegedly feature four front-facing cameras that will track the user's head. As such, the device will emulate a 3D user interface that can react according to the user's head movement. Whether or not this feature will be eye-candy-only, or if it will have practical purposes remains to be seen, but it's all going to be done via software "trickery", and not a real 3D screen. Of course, there's a chance that these rumors are not going to be correct to begin with. Only time will tell.

In addition to these new speculations, it's also rumored that Amazon is actually working on two smartphones, one of which will be a more affordable device. Dubbed "Project B", this device will deliver basic FireOS software features and lower-end hardware specifications.

Unfortunately, the rumors suggest that Amazon will not launch any smartphones this year, so in other words, we'll once again have to wait and dig through tons of rumors before we'll eventually be able to learn the official details, if that.

Would anyone be interested in an Amazon smartphone with a 3D user interface?
