Hey, I need a new phone and I have been looking at several different ones. One is the V3 Razr but the price is the biggest deterrent there since I do not wish to sign a new contract because I am already under one and even so it is very expensive. It also doesn't seem very good for text messaging which I do quite often. The flat keypad may not be good for that.

I have been thinking about getting an unlocked sidekick 2 (very different - I realize) and using it on cingular. I have read a lot of info on the phone but not in relation to its use on other networks. If there is an internet or data plan with cingular would this be compatable? Also, is it worth getting if all I will be doing is text messaging and using it as a normal phone? Are there enough other useful features to use on the phone that dont require you to be on the tmobile network? I send a lot of text messages everyday so the full keypad is very attractive, but I also have heard it has no vibrating ring function and cant really get many good ringtones, is this true? Do you have to open it up to dial or can you somehow do that with the screen closed? Will it fit in my pocket? is it uncomfotable on your face as a phone?

I also understand that it can be used as an organizer, is this true, even just as a datebook without links to the internet would be nice. Basically I want to know if its normal use as a phone is not too inconvenient or obtrusive to warrant it being used for easier text messaging and as an everyday phone. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Dude from one cingular user to another. dont bother i had the same curiosity,
in my eyes it isnt worth it. if you want a good cingular phone get the nokia
3300. it is an mp3 player/fm radio and it has aim. a wap browser. it comes
with a 64mb multimedia card. so you can always upgrade your memory card
if you know how to shop for them i have a 1gb mmc in mine. if you think this
sounds good then go for it. if not then get your sidekick!!!

to answer a few of your questions. Yes you must open the screen to make a phone call. This is everything you see when you power on the phone,Download fun,AOL instant messenger,Email,Phone,Phone messages(voice
    mail&alerts),Adress book(with photo caller I.D.),Web browser,Camera,Calendar
To do,Notes,And a crappy game called Rock & Rocket.
this is menu on the sidekick 2

The sidekick does have a vibrate ring mode. But is useless to get on the cigular networks. Heres why: If you get the sidekick on anyservice that does not support it. you will not be able to get the data plan for 20 bucks...so that mean...NO unlimited TEXT, EMAIL WITH ATTACHMENTS, POP3, WEB BROWSING, and last but not least aol Instant messaging. SO no the sidekick is not worth paying for...because it will only be a phone and sms device which is gay.
