I'm stuck in a hotel room in Pensacola. Coverage is good outside but not
even one bar inside my room. Once in a while the phone goes to the Extended
Network mode and suddenly I get four bars and the phone actually works! Then
after a few minutes it's back to Verizon and the meter is dead as well as
    das Telefon.

Is there any way to force the phone (Motorola T730) onto that extended
    Netzwerk?

    Vielen Dank!

    Booger,
Don't laugh. Put the phone in your pocket! Works for me. If you
make/receive a call, it'll stay w/the Extended network until the call is
    over.

Using it for internet access? Put the phone under the computer!
Anything to reduce the Verizon signal to keep it swtiched to the
    stronger signal.

You can't keep it there, but you can make calls outgoing by forcing another
carrier. *22800 will access the A-side carrier, *22801 the B-side carrier
and *22802-07 will access the PCS carriers. You have to watch the display.
When you finish dialing, wait for the phone to switch over and, with haste
    mind you, dial the number.

    Trying unscrewing the antenna too.

There is another way if you are outside your home sid. Hit menu,
0,7,3,8,8,7,* enter the security code 000000, go to sid/nid pair, choose
nam 1, then select sid/nid #2 and put in the sid of the network you are
trying to force it to roam on . Exit out of the programming menu and then
choose, menu, settings, network, set mode and choose home only. This works
for me on my 720 when i want to overrride the prl and force a different sid.
It wont work if you are inside your home sid though.

    Re: Forcing "Extended Network?"

A side affect of my v120c and v120e phones is that if you dial *228xx
where xx is 00 to 07, you can have your phone attempt to a PRL update
on another carrier. (don't worry, it won't change the PRL) If that
carrier is in the PRL, the phone will STAY on that carrier - either an
Extended network or native Verizon. If its not in the PRL, search on
the SID of the network you're on. You can either cycle power to the
phone, or dial *228xx where xx is the code for Verizon and it will go
    back to normal.

According to Justalurker's website, Alltel is SID 0120, which means
its a cellular B band carrier, and its Extended Network.

If your phone has a 2nd NAM, you can put this SID in your phone and it
    should work fine.

Menue 073887* will only work on some phones, it works on my Motorola
    C331t (Cingular Wireless).

Just tried this in the Chicago area. -03 was USCC's failure message, -05
    was the same but didn't say whose it was, -00 -02 -04 -06 & -07 wouldn't
    connect. -01 would be VZW.
