Is this permanent or is there a year limitation on this? In other words, will iPhones ever be available with other cell phone providers?

The last I heard when I worked for AT&T was that the Apple contract was exclusive for at LEAST a few years. We'll see though, with how big Verizon is getting and even Sprint with their competitive pricing there's no telling what the future holds.

Yes, Verizon buying Alltel definitely changed some things I think. It would seem silly to keep a product away from the rest of what could be their market too. I mean, I just don't like AT&T and no matter how many great phones they have I'm not switching.
I take that back. We'll see how this Verizon/Alltel merger goes. I'm an Alltel customer.
