I got my Pantech c740 last year. Recently, my phone was either lost or stolen ( I think the latter). I've searched everywhere. Since I cannot find my phone, if I wish to cancel my phone service which I got in April of 09 and goes through April of '11.,I know there is a termination fee which is fine. I recently read an article written in 2007 that ATT can prorate the cancellation depending on how long you already used the service. Do they still do this or is it still $175. My phone is on the family plan right now so I am guessing terminating it would be cheaper in the long run. I really like the droid based phones wish ATT had ones I liked. I already had the phone suspended so nobody can make calls on my account.

Termination fee goes down by $5 for every month that your contract is in force. Your fee would be around $100.

You do not have to cancel your contract because the phone is lost. The contract is for the voice service. You can get a replacement phone on your own and have AT&T Mobility activate a new SIM card with your current number.

I would but the only thing that I don't like about is ATT's data plan which needs work. I don't see any unlimited data plan that verizon has. I don't want sprint as the coverage map is really really bad. Verizon here is very nice and att is in the middle of the two. The HTC aria is cool until I read about the restrictions placed on the phone refusing to run side loaded apps. For the droid experience, verizon seems more laxed on what you can do with the phone. Esp with HTC. Droid x looks good. Tough decision though. at least it's good to know my cancellation would be around $100.

You can change phones any time you want with GSM. You can change your voice plan to a higher or lower value without affecting your contract. What does Early Termination Fees have to do with changing telephones? You only pay Early Termination Fees if you cancel your voice plan before the end of the contract. You only get a new contract if you purchase a phone from the carrier at a discounted price . If you get a phone requiring certain features, you have to subscribe to those features. If you get a phone not requiring data or messaging features, you do not have to subscribe to those features. You would be on pay per use if you chose that option.

I hate the fact they don't have unlimited data plans anymore for new sign ups. And you can't cancel a contract in the store. Guy there said that I'd have to call customer service for that due to how they changed their system.

The unlimited data option was only removed for PDAs, BlackBerrys and iPhones. It still exists for other phones such as the one you lost.

Hmm...the phones that use the MOST data...how convenient.

Verizon Wireless will probably come up with some dumb idea like this in the near future.

if you dont have insurance on your phone, you might just want to call AT&T and see if they can help you with an upgrade, maybe an early one or you may be eligible now as it is. give them a call, they can always work with you.
