Looking for new phone

I need a new phone as my iPhone 5S is difficult to charge (it is 2 1/2 years old) but I dont want to purchase it at AT&T. I may not want an iPhone again, maybe a Samsung, Apple just wants too much money. I surfed around on Amazon but am more confused than when I started my search.

To upgrade with AT&T I have to sign a 2 1/2 year (lease?) agreement and I just dont like that. I'd rather spend the money up front and be free from an agreement. There are just so many sellers and so many phones and soooooooo much information to look over. I thought I had found a Samsung I liked, the information provided indicated it was AT&T compatible and unlocked. Everything looked good and then I happened to look at purchasers remarks and several people indicated the phone was international and would not work for them here in the US. Glad I saw that.

So, I guess the short question is: Is there a reputable, reasonably priced place to purchase an unlocked phone compatible with AT&T?
