I plan on getting the cdma service at boost mobile. I haven't signed up for either the cdma or iden plan yet and I don't have a iden or cdma phone. How do I go about doing this? I plan on only buying a cdma boost mobile phone from ebay or something.

    1. Do I have to order a boost mobile sim activation kit?
    2. Do I have to buy a boost mobile iden phone?
    3. How do I switch from iden to cdma if a cdma phone doesn't use a SIM card?

and anything else I need to do?

Re: switch between iden and cdma phone and SIM question

Mods Note: Cleaned up thread. Unneeded HTML code was not recognized by the system and therefore cluttered the thread. Much easier to read/understand now.

CDMA phones DO NOT utilize SIM Cards, therefore anything involving SIMs are not necessary for CDMA.

You can buy a CDMA phone from many different retailers; however, the best idea would be to get it directly from Boost...especially since you'll pay about the same no matter if you get it at Boost or through eBay.

    1. SIM Activation Kit? I have no idea what this is, but if you're using the CDMA service, this wouldn't be required.

    2. If using CDMA, it will use a CDMA device, not an iDEN device. iDEN uses their own version of a SIM card and is not compatible with CDMA.

    3. You cannot switch between CDMA and iDEN. They are two different types of wireless technology. GSM (like AT&T/T-Mobile) cannot use CDMA (like Verizon, etc)...it's the same way with iDEN and CDMA.

Re: switch between iden and cdma phone and SIM question

the thing about switch from i-d-e-n to c-d-m-a was from this thread titled: For those with c-d-m-a UNLTD phones

It says that boost mobile customers can switch to c-d-m-a from i-d-e-n which supposedly features better service. Can I just sign up directly with Boost Mobile c-d-m-a? if so how?

P.S. I inserted dashes between the acronym letters because some weird html code keeps popping up. Also I'm not able to post links to the thread I was referring to. It is in the same section as this thread though.

By that it means that you can move your account from iden to cdma, but then you would need to purchase a cdma phone, and yes at Nick sugested, it's better if you deal with Boost directly, you can walk into any Sprint store to do this.

Re: switch between iden and cdma phone and SIM question

Just go online at Boost and buy one of their CDMA phones and set up a new account there by activating it.I was told by Boost that they are dropping all iden service in 2013.So better to buy a CDMA phone now or youll be buying one later when your iden phone is obsolete.I live in Lima OH near Lima Memorial Hospital and have a CDMA phone with no problems with reception even though their coverage map says "fair" for my location.Must warn you that if you have a iden boost phone now at 10 cents a minute pay as you go it will go up to 20 cents a minute when you make changes.I just found that out. They now cost as much as ATT at 20 cents a minute so I am considering trying a second phone with ATT for my hubby. I presently am happy with my Incognito phone with Boost and will stay with them till something better arrives.Good Luck!!
