Re: What's the difference between a woman and a lady?

Oh you don't want to play that women fought for equal rights card...don't even start. Things like being considerate, practicing an act of kindness and extending courtesies have NOTHING to do with ERA! While I have no problem opening my own door, if somebody does it for me they get a thank you and a smile, regardless of gender or age.
I do have a problem with people who ignorantly equate the fight for ERA with civilized behavior and use it as an excuse to excoriate the rights women SHOULD have as citizens of this country. Let me ask you this joethetowman...your mother, wife, daughter, sister should not be entitled to get the same pay and benefits for doing the same job your father, you, brother or son does? Hell...maybe the women folk really oughtn't have the right to vote either?

a girl grows up to be a woman, but in the process she may never learn how to be a lady....

Re: What's the difference between a woman and a lady?

My main reason for saying what i did is i work for a large dealership and our company policy is a male employee is in no way allowed to harrass a ffemale employee. The company handbook says this includes but is not limited to opening a door, commenting on an outfit, or commenting on perfume, or any other aspect of their person or personal belongings. I do believe a woman should make the same pay and have the same rights as a man but should not complain when she has to do the same job no matter what the job is.

Was company policy written by a complete idiot? Are your doors automatic? The reason I ask is that if somebody has their hands full, it would be a simple courtesy to open the door for them, regardless of gender and should be allowed w/o fear of committing a harrassing act. Cripes, I've asked a man about his cologne in a work setting, simply said...I'd like to recommend it to my son's gf as a gift. It may not have been true but at least I found out what I liked without being inappropriate.

I joined the military right after HS. I never complained about having to do what the guys did, nor did I play the "woman" card to have things done for me. However, I was not above asking for help if something was too heavy or cumbersome for me to handle on my own, nor was I above offering help if I saw somebody struggling. Basically it gets down to an issue of safety and accident prevention...put in those terms, an assist would usually be accepted.

IMHO, some women are too wimpy about establishing their boundaries. I have no problem with it and am respected for it. Of course approach has alot to do with reception. For instance, I have tolerance for some profanity, but when it becomes the major word usage to communicate I might say something like...c'mon people, it's getting a bit raw and ya never know who can hear you. It's worked for me and does raise a level of awareness.

Used to work in a group home for ajudicated male youth. Some higher ups wanted to discourage hugs. I pitched that 1)These boys were not lepers and needed appropriate affection modeled. 2) A hug can be given briefly, using one arm and the side of one's body to avoid full frontal contact and discount sexual overtones.

I think it all just boils down to self-awareness, consideration and civility. Smiles.

LOL...I am NOW. Actually, I have never run across the question before. I made it up after a guy rehashed the familiar "a man wants a lady on his arm and a whore in bed. Didn't see the answer in THAT forum either btw. Stay tuned.

Re: What's the difference between a woman and a lady?

A woman has the choice to be a lady or not. All female persons are women but not ladies. All ladies are women. More basic---classiness versus no class. That is why it is a choice.

OK...here's the answer I was looking for:
A woman knows when NOT to be a lady.
    Now you know. Smiles.
