Re: Any suggestions about laptop?
I don't really think about Gateway computers much, many other brands come to mind first for some reason. When I think of a computer, I think of Dell, Acer, Toshiba, HP, etc, but Gateway doesn't usually come to mind.
I believe eMachines is owned by Gateway, I did have an eMachine as my desktop computer but not anymore since it isn't working since it was on during a storm and now it won't turn on all the way.

Re: Any suggestions about laptop?
I did a little bit of research on this. Acer and Gateway are actually related. The eMachines support page is through Gateway, but the bottom of eMachines website mentions "Acer Group" and when I went to their website and looked at their brands Gateway and Acer are both listed along with another brand I'm not familiar with.
I didn't know Acer and Gateway were related. I wonder if they have always been or if this is something new.

Re: Any suggestions about laptop?
There are a lot of companies that offer several brands, for various reasons, but I never knew Acer, Gateway, and eMachines were related.
I might be wrong, but if I had to sort them from "cheapest" to the highest quality, I would choose: eMachines, Acer, and then Gateway
I always think of Gateway as being a little expensive. I got my Acer laptop for $299 - $349 if I remember correctly. I don't remember the cost of my eMachines desktop that I got several years ago.
My Dell laptop was around $499 and I remember that was a good deal a few years ago.
It's amazing how the costs on these electronics keep dropping. It's even more fun to watch the cost of cell phone service change so much since it is so competitive.
