Re: Any suggestions about laptop?
I called Toshiba last X-mas and was told their techs don't have remote access which is ludicrous. HP and Dell have RA. RA will save your butt big time when it comes to diagnosing and troubleshooting problems. Lenovo didn't have RA and neither did Apple back then. Acer didn't have it plus their tech support team was not open 24/7 which is UNACCEPTABLE to someone like me since I use my lappie for work and school.
My rule: I cannot and will not live without RA.
A 40 minute service call is cut to 20 mins. with RA. I've used RA many times, I know. I was with Dell when they didn't have it and I was with them when they implemented RA. Trust me, there's a world of difference. Even if you use it only once a year it can and will save your butt especially when they need to go into the registry.
The HP HDX lappie blows the MacBook PRO away. It has an HDMI port, the Mac doesn't. Comes with an optional quad core processor, the Mac doesn't. Comes with an 18 inch monitor, the Mac doesn't. Comes with backlit keyboard, TV tuner, Bluetooth, 8GB RAM, and more, plus it's cheaper than a Mac.
One thing about tech devices: failures are not only an option, they are a certainty.
It's certain to happen with routers, cell phones, ISP providers, cameras, you name it. People in our day and age are tech support dependent. You cannot live without tech support. Even Apple has a tech support division.Last edited by Regular; 08-29-2009 at 10:49 PM.

Re: Any suggestions about laptop?
All the companies provide the same technologies. The difference just come under the prices. So if you have some money problem then choose that company which require less amount than others.Otherwise technology will be the almost same.

Re: Any suggestions about laptop?
Depends on what you want it for. If you just want browsing and simple computer usage, any laptop brand will do. If you want to do some gaming, you need to look into laptops with higher level graphics like NVIDIA.
If money is tight, look into refurbished laptops. I got my daughter a nice Gateway for less than $500. Just make sure you're buying from a reputable dealer.

Re: Any suggestions about laptop?
Actually Lenovo (AKA IBM) has some really affordable laptops. You can snag a G Series for around $400 with decent specs. That is what I have. Toshiba is okay but it isn't any cheaper than a Lenovo.

Re: Any suggestions about laptop?
I agree, some of the cheaper laptops work just fine with general web browsing. I've seen some recently between $299 and $349 with a 15" screen, and some even cheaper with smaller screens. I prefer not to invest too much in computers since the technology changes so quickly. If I were to spend $1,000 on a computer I would want it to last ten years, and with the way technology is moving it would probably be time to purchase a new one in two or three years. Because of that, I prefer to purchase cheaper computers. And I've been happy with their performance so far.
