There have been several rumors concerning a Samsung smartphone that would run on Tizen, which should be launched sometime this year. Early rumors were even claiming that the Samsung Galaxy S4 would be a Tizen device, but that evidently didn't happen.

In any case, there's pretty much no denial that Samsung is planning on expanding on this particular platform, and according to the latest rumors, the Korean manufacturer is planning on releasing not one, but two Tizen smartphones by the end of the year.

The information has been leaked via PDFs files that have been originally posted for the developers over at the Samsung Tizen store. The information that got leaked indicates that there are two Tizen smartphones in the works, codenamed Melius and Redwood.

Melius is a lower-range smartphone packing 3G radios only, but Redwood is supposedly a high-end device that comes with 4G LTE on-board. In fact, Samsung's Lee Young Hee has mentioned that “the device [Redwood] will be the best product equipped with the best specifications”.

As far as availability goes, word on the street is that the Redwood would be the first to hit the market, sometime this summer. After that, the Melius would follow with its own launch sometime in September. One more thing to add is that, supposedly, these two Tizen smartphones will hit the US market first, after which Europeans will get their chance at buying them as well.

Would you be interested in changing the scenery and buying a Tizen Samsung device? What do you think would be the pros and cons of owning the Redwood or the Melius?
