Great news for all of you out there that happen to own the Samsung Galaxy Nexus at Sprint, as the carrier in question has recently started to roll-out the long awaited Android 4.2.1 update on the respective device.

As you already know by now Sprint has previously launched Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on its Galaxy Nexus a few months ago, but up until now there hasn't been any concrete information concerning the arrival of the latest Android OS iteration. Fortunately, the waiting is now over and owners of the GNex at Sprint are now able to benefit from all those Android 4.2.1 goodies, including lockscreen widgets, Notifications Shade and the new camera feature called Photo Sphere which allows you to tale 360-degree panorama pictures with your handset.

The new build will bring your smartphone's software version up to JRO03U.L700GA02 and in case you haven't received the update notification on your Galaxy Nexus just yet then keep in mind that according to Sprint, the new OS version will be available for every GNex owner within the next 21 days. That being said, you might have to wait for a bit longer before you'll be able to pull Android 4.2.1 from the servers if you haven't been able to do so already. Nevertheless, don't hesitate to do a manual check now and again by accessing the Settings menu on your device.

All in all, good news for Sprint customers that happen to own the ex-flagship Nexus handset, but unfortunately for Verizon customers, Big Red hasn't given any signs of progress concerning the deployment of Android 4.2.1. Hopefully the carrier in question will be able and catch up sooner rather than later.
