Millions of people are going to be affected by hurricane Irene. That means everyone is going to be calling family and friends to make sure they are okay. This leads to network congestion and ultimately calls that do not make it through.

All four major carriers are preparing for the storm by adding capacity and staging portable generators. Fortunately the FCC and FEMA are also monitoring the storm. FEMA has already set up two Mobile Emergency Response Teams in Raleigh, N.C., and Fort Jackson, S.C.
