I already own a Droid 4 phone from my previous contract with Verizon. I'd now like to go with a company that offers month to month plans. Being sort of new to cell phone business, what kind of companies, if any, would be able to give me such a plan while still using my Droid 4? I've browsed a few companies and they seem to only give plans for phones they sell you themselves.
Thanks

Do you want to sign a new two year contract? If so I would take the new discounted or free phone and sell the Droid 4. It would be more trouble trying to program the Droid 4 and get it to work properly on a different network, honestly. That and you wouldn't be able to use the 4g LTE that the phone has.

Re: Plan for someone who already owns a phone?
Well if it's really that much of a pain to program my Droid 4 for a different network, that's a shame because I just got the phone and loved it before I lost my job and had to break my contract with Verizon. This time around I was hoping to find a month to month deal so something like that doesn't happen again. Out of love for the phone I guess I might have to bite the bullet and go ahead with another 2 year contract with Verizon?

The phone does have a GSM antenna, but they are specifically excluded from working on US GSM networks. I'm sure if you hunt around XDA enough you'll find a solution, but like I said, more trouble than its worth.
You could also sell it and use the money to buy a GSM phone that'll work on prepaid.

You can use almost any Verizon Wireless phone on Page Plus Cellular, a month to month prepaid company that is using Verizon's network. There are some exclusions, and one of them is you can't activate a 4G LTE phone over the air (OTA).
If you sell it, you can purchase a Verizon phone that doesn't have 4G and activate it on Page Plus. Maybe you can get the DROID 2 Global. It will be a downgrade, but you should have some money left over from selling the DROID 4, so you will profit from downgrading.

Ting might be a good option for you if you can unlock the phone. Verizon should be willing to do that for you. https:// zb7pqk11l14.ting.com/
