We are going to get our son an iphone for his 13th birthday. We have many Sprint phones and the cost to get him an iphone 4s is $0 for the phone and $29.00 / month for unlimited voice / data. For an iphone 5s the phone is $99 and the same monthly fee. This is a 2 year activation.

Our other option is to buy a used iphone 4s on ebay (or similar place). For this is seems the 4s would be about $100 for a 16gb (used). I guess then we can use it with a pay-as-you go service like AT&T GoPhone for $45 / month (this is not unlimited either - 250 minutes and 1G data that gets slower as you go.

I just don't know if it's better to go with Sprint or not. What do you think?
