WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data located on the phone’s internal memory will be lost, including ringtones and media files, downloaded content, contacts, apps etc. In addition, factory resetting your device will revert all settings to default. However, data located on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you factory reset the device ,you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on restoring data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
  4. Turn “Automatic Restore” and “Backup my data” On or Off
  5. Tap “Reset phone”
  6. If your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your password / PIN to proceed
  7. Optionally you can enable “Erase SD Card”. WARNING! By enabling this option, all data stored on the SD card will be deleted during the reset process
  8. Tap “OK” at the “Warning” pop-up to confirm

Factory Reset via Android Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can reset the device from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

  1. Ensure the device is powered off
  2. Press and hold “Volume Down” and “Power” at the same time
  3. Release “Power” when the phone vibrates, and release “Volume down” at the “hTC download menu”
  4. From the menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “reboot to bootloader”
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Highlight “Boot to Recovery Mode” using “Volume down”
  7. Press “Power”
  8. Wait for the HTC logo to appear and disappear, and for an exclamation mark (“No Command”) screen to appear
  9. Press and hold “Power”, then tap “Volume Up” (release “Power” as soon as you gain access to "Android Recovery”
  10. Navigate the Recovery menu using the volume keys and highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
  11. Press “Power”
  12. Highlight “yes – delete all user data” and press “Power” to confirm
  13. After the reset is done, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

Check for Firmware Updates:

NOTE: Once you have factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to, and tap “About”
  4. Tap “Software information”
  5. Verify if a new update is available, and if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
