There isn't really a speed dial feature, but you can create a shortcut to a contact that will act like a speed dial. Here's how to do it:
- Long press on the home screen to bring up the shortcut menu
- Select Shortcuts
- Select Direct dial
- Select the contact you want
- You're done!
- You might want to move the direct dial to another screen to prevent accidentally dialing that person

Re: Add Speed Dial on the Droid (direct dial)
Good point about moving the Direct Dials to another screen. I also found you can just make them from the other screen which saves the time of moving them.

Re: Add Speed Dial on the Droid (direct dial)
You can also create a Folder, Name it Speed dial and arrange your direct dial contacts in that folder.......

Re: Add Speed Dial on the Droid (direct dial)
what i did is was add a contact (name) to main screen/screens, then... when i touch the INDEX card icon shortcut, it gives me a choice to touch the phone icon (to call)... or the square with the smiley face icon to text.
If you use this way of managing contacts, you have to make sure you list/name your contact properly, example... mary home... mary cell... this will make sure you text the cell and not the home number... the option to choose phone or text appears on all numbers. I find this procedure quick in choosing my choice of contact and method directly from my home screen.

Re: Add Speed Dial on the Droid (direct dial)
I just got my droid today, I find these solutions wanting.
I've had speed dialing on every cell phone going back to when they were the size of a shoe box. Clicking a desktop shortcut - let alone 50 or 60 of them, does not warrant the title "Add Speed Dial on the Droid."

Re: Add Speed Dial on the Droid (direct dial)
Associated problems with this procedure...............
Upon activtating shortcut, then direct dial; if you SEARCH for the contact instead of SCROLLING to the contact, Droid will CALL the contact instead of PLACING the contact shortcut on the screen you intended.
OF course, I am in sales and I could be lying to you, but that has been my experience with this particular protocol.
Please correct me if your results differ.

Re: Add Speed Dial on the Droid (direct dial)
Wouldn't it be easier just to add the contact to your Favorites?
