With a usb if you download a song or pic of the internet you can transfer it to your phone anytime, leave it stored on your computer so you don't waste space on your phone (comes in handy if you have alot of ringtones and personalize your phone a lot)

    Well stated Griffzan!!
I'd like to add that you will also be able to store your Phonebook and your Date Book.
I know that phone stores can usually transfer this information when you purchase a new phone, or get a replacement, but I once really f'd up my phone's software and that came in REALLY handy

Actually the cable itself isn't that expensive ($14.99), you can get one from a nextel dealer that will work for most new motorola phones. You'll have to check your connection type to be sure.
