Need help with Moto Pebl!!

Okay, I've never been on a forum before but I need help! I just got the new Motorola Pebl (pink) and it is unlocked. I have T-mobile and I know the pebls work with them b/c I had the orange one before. But, my problem is that I can not send or receive text messages. I called tech support and after telling me to check the service center number (which was correct) he seemed at a loss and told me there was an outage in my area. Which can not be true because other T-mobile users are able to send texts in my area. Is there anyone who has had this problem or can help me? PLEASE!
