This tutorial will teach you how to update your Note II with the CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and has been especially designed for the Samsung Galaxy Note II – US Cellular version, so don’t use it on a different device or model, as you may brick it. For updating the Samsung Galaxy Note II AT&T Version, you can follow this tutorial.

Also, since this isn’t the official Jelly Bean 4.2.2 update, you may find some minor issues or bugs. Some users experienced a few issues with the camera and NFC, but these problems should be fixed soon. But other than that, the update works great, so you will of course be able to customize the UI, improve the device’s performances and its battery life. In any case, proceed only if you are alright with the risks.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Before you get started, it’s recommended that you perform a backup for all your files. You can perform a Nandroid backup, but also save the EFS folder.
2. Your Samsung Galaxy Note II needs to be rooted in order to install this update.
3. A custom recovery image (such as CWM Recovery) has to be installed on your device.
4. A computer with internet access.
5. An USB cable and microSD card.
6. USB debugging needs to be enabled on your phablet.
7. You should deactivate your security programs – antivirus, Firewall, etc from your computer and smartphone as well.
8. Again, this step-by-step tutorial is designed for Note II US Cellular version, following this steps on a different model or device, may brick it.
9. The warranty of your smartphone will be lost. However, you’ll be able to restore it by simply downgrading your device to the stock ROM or updating it with an official OS release.

Updating Samsung Galaxy Note II (US Cellular Version) to CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Custom ROM

1. You first need to download the update file.
2. Download Dark messaging and Center Clock app.
3. Download Google Apps.
4. Save all those files to your computer.
5. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable and transfer the copies you’ve just downloaded from your computer to the Note II.
6. Then unplug the USB cable as we won’t need the computer anymore.
7. Power off your smartphone and reboot it into recovery mode.
8. Then select Wipe Data Factory Reset -> Wipe Cache Partition -> Wipe Dalvik Cache.
9. Select +++go back+++ to return to the Main Menu.
10. Then select Install Zip from SD Card -> Choose ZIP from SD Card.
11. Then flash the update file the same way.
12. Install Google Apps package and flash the add-ons.
13. After the installation process is complete, select +++go back+++.
14. Then select Reboot System Now.
15. Congratulations! You’ve installed the CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Custom ROM

NOTE: In case you receive an error message or have a boot loop, you should boot your device again into the recovery mode and re-do the process starting with step 8. Also, it may take a few minutes for your smartphone to boot the first after you install this update.

Note II: If you don’t really like the CM10.1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Custom ROM update, you can restore your device to the stock ROM. To do so, follow the same steps presented above, but when you get to Step 8, instead of selecting to Wipe Data Factory Reset, select to restore the ROM.
