Are you experiencing a low-battery life with your Samsung Galaxy S4? This tutorial will teach you how to take the necessary steps to conserve the battery life of your device.

Reducing the Backlight Brightness and Backlight Timeout

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Then go to Settings -> tap My Device -> select Display -> Brightness -> check or uncheck Automatic Brightness, as desired.
    3. In case you didn’t select Automatic brightness, tap and drag the slider to the most comfortable level -> then tap OK.
    4. Now tap Screen timeout -> select the lowest comfortable setting (15 seconds, 30 seconds, etc).

Changing from a Live Wallpaper to a Regular Wallpaper

Using a live wallpaper will drain your battery life faster.
    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Then go to Settings -> tap My Device -> select Display -> then tap Wallpaper -> select the desired wallpaper location (Home screen, Lock screen, Home and Lock screens ) -> select Wallpapers -> select the desired wallpaper image and tap Set wallpaper.

Turning Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC Off

Leaving Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or GPS On at all times will drain your battery life, so it’s best to turn these settings off when not actively using them.
However, having your Samsung Galaxy S4 connected to an Wi-Fi network whenever available will significantly increase the battery life of your smartphone by up to 50%!
    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Go to Settings -> toggle Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC sliders to OFF.
    3. Then tap Wi-Fi -> tap Smart Mode -> and make sure to turn Smart Mode ON. By enabling this feature, your smartphone will remember the locations where you spent most time on Wi-Fi and will automatically turn Wi-Fi On when near to those locations.

    Disabling GPS

Leaving GPS on at all times will drain your battery life, so it’s recommended to disable it when not in use.
    1. From the Home screen, drag down the Notification bar.
    2. Tap the GPS icon to disable it.

    Stopping Running Background Apps

    1. From the Home screen, press and hold the Home key.
    2. To close an app, tap and drag the desired one to the left or right.
    3. If you want to close all apps, tap the Task Manager icon located at the bottom left corner of the screen -> tap End all located next to Active applications.

    Syncing Less Often

Setting your Samsung Galaxy S4 to sync less often will help preserve its battery life.

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Go to Settings -> tap Accounts -> select the desired account (Google, Dropbox, etc) -> then tap the account you wish to sync less often -> now tap to check or uncheck the desired synching options.

    Turning Vibrate Notifications Off

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Go to Settings -> then tap My device -> select Sound -> now tap to uncheck Vibrate when ringing if you want to turn off vibrate for ringtones and notifications.
    3. If you want to turn off vibrate for the entire system, tap to uncheck Haptic feedback.

    Enabling Power Saving Mode

    1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
    2. Go to Settings -> then tap My device -> tap Power saving mode and turn the slider to ON.

    Additional Steps

In order to have an increased battery life, you should charge your Samsung Galaxy S4 regularly and can also download a Battery Saving app from the Play Store.
