Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "My device" tab
  3. Tap the "ON / OFF" switch associated with "Power saving mode" and enable the feature
  4. To change the mode's settings, tap "Power saving mode"
  5. Clear or mark the check boxes next to "CPU power saving", "Screen power saving" etc. to adjust how the Power saving mode works

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Press the "Menu" key while viewing a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap the "My device" tab
  4. Go to "Display" > "Brightness"
  5. Clear the "Automatic brightness" check box if necessary
  6. Drag the brightness slider to the left, and set it to a lower level
  7. Tap "OK"
  8. Tap "Screen timeout" and select a lower setting, such as "15 seconds"

Changing Sync Settings for Applications:

  1. While on a home screen, press the "Menu" key
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "Accounts" tab
  3. Under "My accounts", select the desired type of account, such as "Google"
  4. Tap a sync category to clear its check box and disable syncing
  5. Tap your "user name" or "email address" at the top of the screen to adjust additional sync settings

Disabling Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS and Bluetooth:

NOTE: when not in use, it's highly recommended that you disable all connectivity features in order to conserve battery life, especially GPS and Bluetooth.

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot"
  4. Tap the "ON / OFF" switch associated with mobile hotspot, and set it to "OFF"
  5. Return to the home screen and swipe the "Status" bar down
  6. Tap the icons associated with "GPS", "Bluetooth" and "Wi-Fi" to disable these features

Disabling Background Data:

  1. From any home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "Connections" tab
  4. Tap "Data usage" and press the "Menu" button
  5. Mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: even when not in use, some third party apps run in the background, and this can affect your phone's battery performance. To prevent this, you can disable or uninstall applications that you don't use.

  1. From any home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "More" tab
  3. Tap "Application manager" and go to the "Downloaded" screen
  4. Select the desired application
  5. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app. To completely remove the app, tap "Uninstall" > "OK"

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Go to the "Connections" tab
  4. Tap "More networks" > "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  5. Tap "GSM only" to switch to 2G
  6. To return to 4G connectivity, tap "LTE / GSM / WCDMA (auto correct)" or "GSM / WCMA (auto connect)"

Updating to the Most Recent Software Version:

NOTE: this tip can help you increase the battery life of your phone, only if Samsung has released a new software update that introduces battery life fixes or improvements. If no update is available, then following the steps below will have no effect.

  1. From the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Go to the "More" tab
  4. Tap "About device" > "Software update"
  5. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions in order to download and apply it
