Backing Up Applications:
- While on the home screen, press the "Menu" button
- Tap "Settings" and go to the "Accounts" tab
- Tap "Backup and reset". NOTE: in order to back up your apps, you need to be logged in to a Google account. If necessary, tap "Backup account" > "Add account"
- If necessary, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Backup account"
Contact Backup
Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:
- From the home screen, tap the "Contacts" icon
- If necessary, press the "Menu" button, tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Press the "Menu" button and select "Import / Export"
- Tap "Export to SD card"
- A backup file will be created. Write down the file's name to easily restore the contacts next time
- Tap "OK"
Backing Up Contacts to a Samsung or Google Account:
- Tap the "Contacts" icon located on the home screen
- Press the "Menu" button
- Tap "Merge accounts"
- Select to "Merge with Google" or "Merge with Samsung"
- Log in to your Samsung or Google account, if necessary
Media File Back Up
Backing Up Media Files on the SD Card:
- Tap the "Apps" icon while on the home screen
- Tap "My Files" > "All files"
- Select "Device storage"
- If you wish to back up all of your files, press "Menu", tap "Select all" and skip to step 6
- Navigate to the files / folders that you wish to back up. NOTE: Pictures taken with the camera app are normally found in the "DCIM" folder; downloaded content in the "Downloads" folder etc
- Mark the check boxes associated with the files / folders that you wish to back up
- Tap the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right corner
- Tap "Copy" or "Move" if you wish to avoid creating duplicates
- Tap "SD memory card"
- Navigate to the desired folder, and tap "Paste here" (or "Move here")
Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Establish a connection between your computer and PC via USB
- On the smartphone, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
- Tap the "Media device" check box
- On the computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer", in the AutoPlay window
- Locate the files that are stored on your phone, and you wish to back up
- Copy the files, and navigate to the desired backup location on your computer
- Transfer the files to the desired location
- Once the process is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone
Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first two steps if you already have Kies installed on your Mac
- Navigate to Kies using your computer's Internet browser
- Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen instructions to install Kies on your Mac
- Establish a connection between your smartphone and Mac via USB
- Swipe the "Status" bar down on the Core LTE, and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device (MTP)"
- Launch Kies on your Mac, and click the "Back up / restore" tab
- Click the "Backup" tab if necessary
- Mark the check boxes associated with "Photo", "Music" and other types of files that you wish to back up. Optionally, click "Select all items"
- Click "Backup"
- After the process is done, safely disconnect your smartphone
