WARNING! Master resetting your smartphone will return its settings to factory values, and will remove all the personal data stored on the internal memory, including downloaded content, applications, ringtones, photos etc. Data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected by the master reset.

Master Resetting via the Settings Menu:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "User and Backup" and tap "Backup and reset"
  4. Optionally, mark the check boxes associated with "Automatic restore" and "Back up my data"
  5. Tap "Factory data reset" > "Reset device"
  6. Assuming that your smartphone is lock screen protected by a PIN or password, enter it and tap "Continue"
  7. Tap "Delete all" to confirm

Master Reset Using Hardware Keys (Recovery Menu):

NOTE: Use this method of factory resetting your smartphone in case you are unable to apply the reset via the settings menu as explained above (if your smartphone crashes, freezes etc.).

  1. If necessary, back up the data stored on your device
  2. Turn off your smartphone
  3. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Power" and "Home" buttons at the same time
  4. After the phone vibrates once, release the "Power" button but continue pressing the other two
  5. At the "Android System Recovery" screen, release the "Volume Up" and "Home" buttons as well
  6. From the recovery menu, use "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
  7. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option
  8. Use "Volume Down" to highlight "Yes -- delete all user data"
  9. Press the "Power" key
  10. After the master reset is complete, "Reboot system now" will be highlighted
  11. Press "Power" one last time to reboot your device in normal mode

Update the Android OS:

NOTE: After you apply the factory reset, all previous software updates will be lost. As such, it's recommended that you check for software updates on your phone shortly after the master reset has been applied. To do so:

  1. Ensure that your Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A is connected to a Wi-Fi network
  2. While viewing the home screen, press "Menu" and go to "Settings"
  3. From the "More" tab, tap "About device"
  4. Tap "Software updates"
  5. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it on your device
