Backing Up Applications:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "User and Backup"
  4. Tap "Backup and reset". NOTE: you are required to be logged in to a Google account to back up your apps. If necessary, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen prompts to create or add a Google account
  5. If necessary, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Backup account"

Backing Up Contacts

Using a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Tap "Contacts" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and select "Merge accounts"
  3. Choose either "Google" or "Samsung account"
  4. Tap "OK" to merge the contacts stored on your phone with the selected account

On the SD Card:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "Applications"
  3. Tap "Contacts" and if necessary, select "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  4. Tap "Import / Export" > "Export to SD Card"
  5. Make sure you write down or remember the VCF file's name for future use
  6. Tap "OK" to confirm the export

Backing Up Media Files

Using Your Smartphone:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing one of your home screens
  2. Launch "My Files" and scroll to "Local Storage"
  3. Tap "Device storage" and tap the "Menu" icon in the top-right corner
  4. From the drop-down menu, tap "Select"
  5. Locate the files you wish to back up. Pictures captured with the "Camera" app are usually found in the "DCIM" folder. Other directories of interest bear the names of "Ringtones", "Notifications", "Downloads" etc.
  6. Mark the check box associated with the items you wish to back up
  7. Tap the "Menu" icon and select "Copy"
  8. Tap "SD Card" and navigate to the desired backup location on the SD card
  9. Tap "Paste here"

Using a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Galaxy Note Edge to your computer via USB
  2. Swipe the "Status" bar down and mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
  3. In the AutoPlay window on the computer, click "Open device to view files"
  4. Navigate to the files and folders stored in the "Card" directory
  5. Copy the files you wish to back up, and paste them in the desired location on your computer
  6. After the transfer is done, safely disconnect your smartphone by ejecting the storage via the "Mass Storage Device" icon in the system tray

Using a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac

  1. On the Mac, use your Internet browser to visit Kies
  2. Click "Download for Mac OS"
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to install Kies on your Mac
  4. Connect the Galaxy Note Edge to your computer via USB
  5. Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Media device (MTP)"
  6. Launch Kies on the Mac and click the "Back up / restore" tab
  7. If necessary, click the "Backup" tab
  8. Mark the check boxes associated with "Music", "Photos" and other types of files you wish to back up
  9. Click "Backup"
  10. Once the process is done, eject the Note Edge's virtual drive from the Mac's desktop and safely disconnect your smartphone
