WARNING! When you master reset your smartphone all settings will be restored to default values, and all the personal data stored on the phone's internal memory will be deleted. This includes photos, apps, custom ringtones, downloaded content etc. Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected by this process.

Master Resetting via Settings:

  1. From the home screen tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "User and Backup" and tap "Backup and reset"
  4. Optionally, tap to clear the "Automatic restore" and "Back up my data" check boxes
  5. Tap "Factory data reset" > "Reset device"
  6. Assuming that you have a lock screen enabled, enter the PIN, password or pattern and tap "Continue"
  7. Tap "Delete all" to confirm the reset

Master Resetting via Recovery Menu:

NOTE: If your smartphone crashes, freezes or is otherwise preventing you from applying the master reset from the settings menu, you can still factory reset it by accessing the recovery menu through a combination of keys:

  1. Turn off your smartphone
  2. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" buttons at the same time
  3. After the phone vibrates, release the "Power" and "Home" buttons but continue pressing the "Volume Up" key
  4. At the "Android System Recovery" screen, release the "Volume Up" button
  5. From the recovery menu, press "Volume down" to highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
  6. Press the "Power" key to select the highlighted option
  7. Use "Volume down" to navigate to and highlight "Yes -- delete all user data"
  8. Press "Power" to select the option and wait for the smartphone to apply the reset
  9. Once done, "Reboot system now" will be highlighted
  10. Press "Power" one last time to reboot your device

Update the Android OS:

NOTE: After you apply the master reset, previous software updates may also be removed. It's recommended that you check for software updates as soon as you have finished master resetting your smartphone. To check for updates:

  1. Ensure that your Galaxy Note Edge is connected to a Wi-Fi network
  2. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
  3. Swipe to "More" and tap "About device"
  4. Tap "Software updates" and follow the on-screen instructions if new updates are available for download
