Clear App Cache / Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps doesnt work as intended, freezes, crashes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try solving these problems by clearing the apps cache / data.
WARNING! When you clear an applications data, all personal information stored within the app, including saves, settings, profiles, high scores, login and credit card details will be lost. To avoid losing personal data, clear only the apps cache.
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Go to Application manager
- Swipe to Downloaded or All
- Select the desired app and tap Clear cache
- If clearing the cache didnt help, you can tap Clear data > OK (read WARNING above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and youre considering factory resetting it, you can try solving these issues by clearing the cache partition. This can yield similar results as a factory reset, without losing any personal data on the internal memory.
- Turn off the phone if necessary
- Press and hold Home, Volume Up, and Power at the same time
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- When the Android logo appears, release the other two buttons and wait to gain access to Android System Recovery
- Navigate the Recovery menu using the volume rocker, and highlight Wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- After the cache partition has been cleared, Reboot system now should be highlighted
- Press Power to confirm
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the issues, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.
- Turn off the phone if necessary
- Press and hold Power at the same time
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone finishes restarting, release Volume down. A Safe Mode watermark should be shown in the lower-left corner of the home screen
- Open the Apps drawer and launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Applications > Application manager
- Go to Downloaded
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall two times
- To exit safe mode, simply press and hold Power and tap Restart
