Reducing Memory (RAM) Use:

In case your smartphone is running a bit sluggish, chances are that you may need to reduce the amount of memory being used. There are multiple methods of freeing up the RAM:

  • Removing Widgets:
    1. On the home screen tap and hold the widget that you wish to remove
    2. Drag the widget over the "Trash can" icon and release the widget when it's highlighted in red


  • Replacing a Live Wallpaper:
    1. Tap the "Menu" key on your device
    2. Select "Set wallpaper"
    3. Tap "Home screen"
    4. Select "Gallery" or "Wallpapers" and follow the prompts to set a new wallpaper


  • Removing Unused Home Screens:
    1. Tap the "Menu" button while on the home screen
    2. Select "Edit page"
    3. Tap and hold the home screen that you wish to delete
    4. Drag the home screen over the icon depicting a "Trash can" and release the home screen on top of it


Managing Applications to Keep Your RAM Plenty:

  • Keep Your Applications Up to Date:
    1. Tap the "Apps" icon on the home screen
    2. Open the "Play Store"
    3. Tap the "Menu" button and select "My Apps"
    4. Select the application that needs an update and tap and tap "Update". Optionally, you can tap "Update all"


  • Clearing Application Cache and Data:
    1. While on the home screen, tap the "Menu" key on your device
    2. Select "Settings"
    3. Press "Application manager"
    4. If necessary, swipe left or fight to switch between the "Downloaded", "Running", "All" screens
    5. Select the desired application
    6. Tap "Clear data" and tap "OK"
    7. Tap "Clear cache"


  • Clearing Recent Applications:
    1. While on the home screen, press and hold the "Home" key on your device
    2. Tap and hold an individual application and drag it to the right side of the screen to clear it
    3. To close all recent apps, tap the icon depicting a "Trash can"


Viewing and Closing Running Apps via the Task Manager:

  1. While on the home screen, tap and hold the "Home" key on your device
  2. Tap the "Task Manager" icon
  3. Perform one of the following tasks:

  • Close Active applications: tap the "Active applications" tab and tap the "End" button next to the desired app. Alternatively, tap "End all"
  • Uninstall applications: Tap the "Downloaded" tab and press the "Uninstall" button associated with an app
  • Clear RAM: Tap the "RAM" tab and select "Clear memory"


Note: Although this is not always necessary or required, remember that the manufacturer advises you to restart your smartphone regularly (at least once per day) in order to clear up the RAM. To restart your handset:

  1. Press and hold the "Power" key
  2. Tap "Restart" and wait for the process to complete
