Download and Install the Sony PC Companion Tool:

  1. Visit PC Companion ? Sony Xperia? support (United States)
  2. Click "Download PC Companion"
  3. Open the client once it is downloaded
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the tool on your computer

Backing Up Data On a Computer:

  1. Use the USB cable to connect the Xperia E3 to your computer
  2. Open the Sony PC Companion tool
  3. Under "Backup & restore", click "Start". NOTE: It may take a while for the process to start, assuming this is the first time using it
  4. Click "Backup" and select the content you wish to back up
  5. Click "Next" and wait for the PC Companion tool to retrieve the smartphone's file system information
  6. Enter a name for the backup file and click "Next"
  7. Wait for the process to complete and click "OK"

Restoring Data from a PC Backup File:

  1. Connect the Xperia E3 to your computer via USB
  2. Launch the Sony PC Companion
  3. Under "Backup & Restore", click "Start"
  4. Select the desired backup file and click "Next"
  5. Wait for the Companion application to retrieve information on your phone and click "Next"
  6. If necessary, follow any additional on-screen prompts that may appear
  7. When done, click "OK"

Setting Up Contact / Calendar Sync:

  1. Connect the Sony Xperia E3 to your computer via USB
  2. Launch the PC Companion tool
  3. Click "Start" under "Sync Zone". NOTE: you may have to wait a bit before the feature starts
  4. Click "Next"
  5. Select the content you want to sync and click "Next"
  6. Enter your Google account's login details and click "Next"

Reload / Install the Device Software:

  1. Connect the Xperia E3 to your PC and launch the Companion tool
  2. Under "Support Zone", click "Start"
  3. Under "Phone / Tablet Software Updates", click "Start"
  4. Click "repair my phone / tablet" and review the on-screen information
  5. Click "Next" > "Continue" > "Next"
  6. The Sony PC Companion toll will download and install the latest available software. (The process may take several minutes to complete)

Reload the Device Software if the Password is Forgotten:

  1. Launch the Sony PC Companion tool but do not connect the Xperia E3 to your computer yet
  2. From the Companion app, click "Start" under "SupportZone"
  3. Swipe to "Phone / Tablet Software Update" and click "Start"
  4. Click "repair my phone / tablet" and select your smartphone from the list. NOTE: if the Sony Xperia E3 is not listed, click "Another phone / tablet"
  5. Mark the check box and review the on-screen information. Then, click "Next"
  6. Click "Continue" and wait for your computer to prepare the update. If prompted, select the Xperia E3 from the list
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the smartphone (powered off!) to your computer while holding the "Volume down" button
  8. Once the reload process starts, let go of the "Volume" key
  9. The Sony PC Companion tool will now download and install the latest version of Android available on the Xperia E3. This process can take several minutes so be patient
