Turn On Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the “Apps” drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver”

Turn Off Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By turning off Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS when unused, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location”, “Bluetooth” tiles to turn off these features
  3. For additional GPS options, go to “Settings”
  4. Tap “Location” > “Mode” and select “Battery saving”
  5. To turn off Hotspot, go to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot”
  7. Tap the switch to disable the feature

Use 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery life and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile Networks”
  4. Tap “Preferred network type” and select “2G”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
  3. For screen timeout options, open “Settings”
  4. Then, tap “Display” under “Device”
  5. Optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” On or Off
  6. Tap “Sleep” and choose a lower screen timeout duration such as “30 seconds”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps can perform regular background processes, and thus they can affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By turning off or removing unused apps from your phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps” and select “All Apps” from the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Tap “Force Stop” to disable the app
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: To quickly uninstall an application, you can also open the apps drawer, and then drag & drop the app’s shortcut on top of the “Uninstall” area at the top.

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the phone’s sync settings to reduce app / account sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Under “Personal”, tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account and disable the desired sync options

Keep the OS Up to Date:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and as such, it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to, and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Verify if a new update is available for download, and if applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it. NOTE: This process will require at least one reboot
