Back Up App Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
  4. Turn on “Back up my data” to back up app data and settings to your Google account
  5. Turn on “Automatic Restore” to allow app data to be automatically restored when reinstalling apps

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Access “Accounts”
  3. Select an account type and account to use for syncing contacts
  4. Ensure “Contacts” is checked
  5. Lastly, tap “menu” > “Sync now”

NOTE: Contacts backed up using the method above can be restored automatically upon signing in with your Google backup account.

Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Sony Xperia XZ to your computer via USB
  2. Turn on “File Transfer (MTP)” / “Media device (MTP)” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
  3. Open the File Explorer on the computer and use it to locate the media files on the phone storage
  4. Copy the desired media files from the phone and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer
  5. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord

Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Sony Xperia XZ to your computer via USB
  2. Enable “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  3. Open the File Explorer on the computer and locate the media file backups on the PC storage
  4. Transfer the media files back on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder or the directories they originated from
  5. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
